| Customer Reviews: Excellent Backpack for Snowboarding or General Use January 20, 2010 David Chesher (Metro DC) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this pack and purchased the Dakine photo block separately to go with it. I wanted the Dakine Mission Photo pack but I also wanted the laptop sleeve that this pack has and the Mission Photo pack doesn't so that I could have some versatility.
This pack doesn't have the large zipper on the shoulder strap side of the pack to access the contents of the main compartment like the Mission Photo Pack, so inserting the photo block was tight and didn't allow a completely easy access to all the padded photo compartments, but for what I needed it was fine.
I took this backpack up to Mt. Snow Vermont for three days of snowboarding, loading up my camera gear consisting of a Canon Rebel Digital SLR and extra lenses, water bottles, and other items. I found the pack to be very rugged and comfortable to the point that I almost forgot I was wearing it during my runs. The photo block protected the camera gear from damage even after several wipe outs.
The Mission Pack is tough with comfortable shoulder straps, chest strap and a waist strap. I found that the waist strap helps keep the pack in place when you catch an edge and find yourself upended with gravity and momentum deciding your fate. Most of the time I rode with just the shoulder straps and chest strap in place.
The board straps allow you to carry your board on your back. I found this helpful since I was getting over a shoulder injury that tended to ache when carrying anything for very long. I had an extra pair of goggles in the goggle compartment the whole weekend that I completely forgot about, and even after several rough landings they were in perfect shape.
The third day I remembered the water bottle pocket. This is a clever little feature that looks like a pocket until you open it up and it becomes a water bottle carrier complete with a drawstring. It held a 16oz. bottle of water without a problem (didn't try it with anything larger but it seemed like a 20oz bottle would fit), and I never lost a bottle even after a few spills.
Overall I found this to be an excellent choice for snowboarding and would work for a lot of other uses including day-to-day work. I would highly recommend it.
Great Mulit-purpose Bag May 4, 2010 Matthew Rutherford (Twin Cities, MN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
SO, I'm going back to school, and my 9 year old North Face bag just won't cut it anymore. Great bag, great memories, just need more. I was in search of a new NF bag, but the price was getting me down. Then I remembered Dakine, which I own a snowboard bag and goggle case, both very nice. I got this Mission bag in the Black/Alpine plaid for under $37, which they usually sell for $65. WHAT A DEAL. I can use this bag for school, the laptop sleeve holds my 13" MBP perfectly, and I can bring this out west for some snowboarding excursions. The straps are comfy, the construction seems to be high quality, and the style is much better then any north face bag. All in all a KILLER deal.
works perfectly! amazing! April 11, 2010 BILLY SANDERS (earth lol) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
its got so many compartments and it doesn't even have to necessarily be for skateboards!!!! it can be for school, snowboard, for kids sleep overs, anything! it even has to chest straps so u can use stronger muscles so it feels so much lighter! i got the plaid one and it works great! it has like 20 different compartments that actually expand! its got a specific spot for laptop, water bottle, mp3 player, sunglasses, VIDEO CAMERA(which i think is unbelievable)cell phone, a skateboard(obviously), and even swimming goggles! all at the same time!!!! it's about the same size as a regular back pack, yet holds so much more. virtually anything you want fits. its good for all ages and genders. it comes in all kinds of patterns.if you are even CONSIDERING getting it, even doubting it, GeT iT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! P.S i like being helpful so please hit the helpful button at the bottm of this review thanks!
Dakine Mission Pack - good all-around choice October 1, 2009 David L. Luckhardt (East SF Bay, CA United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For everyday daypack use I picked the Dakine Mission Pack out of the rest of their lineup. It has only one internal zippered pocket, but it is large enough to hold all your small stuff, coins, etc. The four external small gear / camera / goggle pockets are well designed and easy to access and nicely lined with soft fabric.
Two main zippered-access compartments separate your gear nicely, and the laptop sleeve is flexible enough to not limit use on the mountain or bike. Board carry straps may get in the way at times, and might put strain on the outer zippered pocket when in use.
